Sunglasses of 2009

Since their invention in the early 1900s, sunglasses have been a permanent accessory in everybody's wardrobes. Throughout this time, countless trends have come and gone in the world of sunglasses. For the year 2009, here are some trends that are likely to surface:

Retro is Definitly Back

There has been a gradual return to retro fashion in the last few years, and this can also be seen in the world of sunglasses. This year, the fashion scene is going back to the fashion of the 1970s. With sunglasses, this means a revival of thick frames made of plastic. Look to your favorite vintage shop to find these stylish sunglasses.

Round sunglasses, specifically the kind of sunglasses popularized by John Lennon, are also back in style. These round sunglasses can have either thick plastic or thick metal frames, and are better suited for women.

Retro frames will be common not only among sunglasses, but also among eyeglasses. This year, the "librarian look" remains to be a popular trend for males and females alike.

Wearing 1960s inspired sunglasses is also a safe look to go for. Loud, bright sunglasses inspired by the 1980s, however, are definitely out of style this year.

Last Season's Trends are Still in

Along with the return to retro fashion, favorite sunglass picks from last season are still in style. An example is the wayfarers, which will also remain trendy this year

Aside from wayfarers, another style from last season that remains big this year is the style of aviators. These aviators are available from most eyewear stores. A trendy idea for this year would be to take hold of a pair of aviators that were made for the opposite sex instead of the unisex style, in order to give yourself a unique look.

Size Still Matters

As it had been for the last 5 years, oversized sunglasses still remain fashionable. Popularized by celebrities such as Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins, bigger continues to be better among oversized sunglasses. The main difference with the oversized sunglasses this year is that 2009 s oversized sunglasses are squared off, instead of rounded. Rounded oversized sunglasses are still popular, but fashion conscious individuals should try to steer clear of that specific style this year.

Gradients Bring Some Color in

Aside from looking at the frames of sunglasses, lenses should also be taken into consideration. Sunglasses that have gradient lenses are all the rage this season. Lenses which are dark at the top and clear at the bottom are especially popular.

Now you know what sunglasses to get to be fashionable this year. Grab one now!
